We pray, "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want." But do we really mean this?
There are a lot of things that we want in life - things that we're excited about. Food. Projects. Family and friends. Ministry. Movies. Sports. Vacations. These are all good things.
But what about the one thing, the best thing? Is Jesus the one we are most enthusiastic about? Are we most eager to spend time with him? Do our thoughts drift to Jesus? When we lie awake at night do we speak Jesus' name? Do we look for opportunities to love Jesus in the people we meet?
What would happen to us if we became persons devoted to Jesus like that? You may not want to love Jesus that much! You may not be ready to pray in earnest, "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want."
David prays in Psalm 63:3: "Your love, O Lord, is better than life." Many times David's heart leaps with joy as he expresses whole-hearted devotion to the Lord and the Christ who was to come.
Let's pray with David... "O Lord Jesus Christ your love is better than anything else in life! You are the Good Shepherd, the Best Shepherd, the Only Shepherd for us. Yes, the Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want. Jesus, you are our portion - you are enough for us, more than enough! - right now and for always. We love you Jesus. We want to love you more and to share your love with everyone we meet. Your kingdom is glorious all around us. Open our eyes to see your goodness and beauty everywhere we go that we might be captivated by your kingdom always. Amen."
